I would think the opposite. Overwatch seems to me to be the more laid-back type that would say "fuck it" to every problem while Ahkn seems to be the calm person that would take a problem as a challenge and eventually solve it.

Well, that just goes to show how much you know, I spent many hours working to solve similar problems like database errors, streamlining the CPU usage, making sure backups stayed reasonably current, delving in the workings of mysql, poring over logs, and adding functionality to the site(sometimes concurrent with you over here snickering with glee, slamming the phora, I might add). I learned a good deal in the course of this, but am glad to be rid of the hassle.

Nonetheless, Ahknaton is a tech-capable admin, and even if he can't figure it out, he can always send a ticket to the sysadmin. As long as they're keeping regular backups, there's probably nothing serious to worry about .

I already explained what precautions I took.

A million times: I changed my password of The Phora, SI, my-email and the one at the Lyceum. So I had four different passwords. I knew the warnings and I am not as dumb as you think I am. Hence the changing of passwords. And this was before I was removed as mod. Do you honestly think I would compromise the forum by using the same passwords on different forums? My e-mailadres is also well protected with a password like 1m!lli0nd0llar$. Combining letters, numbers and signs. Pretty hard to crack if you ask me. Maybe I still have the PM that I send you. Might refresh your memory.

I was registered there when it was still called the Lyceum. To convince someone to get back to our forum. Illusions if you want to know. I made maybe ten posts there in the Dutch section only. I bet Kane and Fade or whoever was running that forum didn't even know I was there. Besides, wasn't it Ixabert that was responsible for the hackings?

Didn't the hackings also stopped before Freemediaproductions or something existed?

I think I got on phorafags/feebs right after the Christmas Coup of 2004 at VNNF went bust and LinderMiller was purging the insurgents like myself.

Impossible. Are you checking this through a cPanel or something? It sounds like your sql server crashed or locked up and cpanel is just reporting that it is still up and running.

It's possible that for whatever reason the server is being overloaded and needs to be optimized. Your host may have put a limit on the site and therefore you getting all kinds of server errors.

I usually charge 75 bucks an hour for this but since it's the phora you can have it on the house.

It's possible that for whatever reason the server is being overloaded and needs to be optimized. Your host may have put a limit on the site and therefore you getting all kinds of server errors.

I usually charge 75 bucks an hour for this but since it's the phora you can have it on the house.

I'm just teasing. Habitual reversal of 'apostrophe ess' for possessives with the apostrophe free (heh) plural form is actually quite common in East Asian English 'tec jargon. It's quite noticeable if you read a lot of documentation written by Indians and Chinese (and I do). Some Americans are picking up the habit and it will be a pet peeve of every schoolmarm in 15 years. Some other characteristics that make it impossible for East Asians to hide are: confusing mass and count nouns (I'll send you the codes tomorrow.) and a preference of 'this one' and 'that one', or 'this/that guy' for demonstratives, rather than the simpler 'this' and 'that' (That one the problem. I fix.). Adding chop-chop is considered a bit archaic.

I'm expecting the current form of Standard English to be deprecated when the beta of English 2.0 comes out.

If you are young enough to never have needed these, bookmark this post for future reference. :) A lot of MySQL sites simply recycle frequently, since the well-known index corruption problem gets cleaned when MySQL gets fixed as part of the startup sequence. This is like the fsck preening-mode done on Unix/Linux file systems, only much more necessary to do regularly.

The exact choice depends on whether you can take the db process down or not, and which of the two engines you happen to be using -- MyISAM or InnoDB.

At 500,000+ posts or whatever the Phora may be reaching its natural life-span on the current software. Flat file glorified hash tables like MS Access and MySQL have a limitation that doesn't scale beyond a certain size, or if it scales you need replication, caching, and distributed infrastructure. The LiveJournal software supports a million users [uniques but not concurrent] and runs on MySQL, obviously far more than the Phora. Its software is freely available and in my opinion best in its class at the technical infrastructure layer -- meaning if you *have* to use MySQL. It lacks usability and features that users want, except of course when infrastructure matters. Eventually, one day, I think even the pickiest users will find that infrastructure is *all* that matters.

Fraudd de Bitcher (http://stumbleinn.net/forum/member.php?u=58)turned the Phora over to myself and some other fellows in Oct 2005, since Fake was sick of it being hacked every couple of weeks and was totally unable or unwilling to take even the most basic countermeasures.

Fraudd de Bitcher kept edging to get back in his old position as an admin with root access, and after being denied this, he chimped out, hard-deleting hundreds of his own posts. A few months after this incident, he used his blog as a platform to allow WFHermans to spread his kikey lies about the new owners of the Phora, and so was banned for this and some other agitation.

It didn't end there, however, when kane123123 (http://stumbleinn.net/forum/member.php?u=486) was given a permaban for more kikey agitations, namely threatening folks with home visits by JTF members, and attempting to organise a bunch of kikenvermin at the JTF to lodge mass complaints to our host in an attempt to get us thrown off. It was this kane123123 whigger feeb, who Fake de Bitcher then opened a new forum with; they hyped it as a 'respectable' venue for highbrow dissent, but in reality were using it to phish the passwords and email accounts of everyone logging in, or attempting to log in. Empowered with this information, Fake's band of kikenvermin, mealy-mouthed whiggers and gay-porn spammers began publicly posting the private contact info of a number of dissidents who had logged into their site, who had their email accounts cracked by the admins there, Fake de Bitcher and kane123123.

Of course, none of these clowns are wise, so one of their group, feeling as if he wasn't well-respected enough by his fellow thieves, defected and posted their entire database, along with the ill-gotten password information, which, along with examination of their publicly-available, hacked clientside code, proved beyond any doubt that Fake de Bitcher and kane123123 were the source of the leaked information.

So, needless to say, few folks are willing to touch their new projects with a bargepole.

Some few weeks after Fake de Bitcher/kane's scam was exposed, Fake began posting unintelligible, cryptic messages on his blog, disappeared for a few weeks, claiming to have been involuntarily committed to the nuthouse by his parents and put on a regimen of antipsychotics.

We're attempting to piece together the post table, if that fails then a rollback to the 18th or possibly previous to that, will be necessary.

Even if a rollback is called for, it may be possible to extract some of the posts between the rollback point and the 23rd from the damaged database... but no guarantees.

As to poisoning of dogs here is a great recipe for Danes. Buy some rat poison..the pellet kind. Then buy some kibbles....the chewy kind.
