http://macrobius.weremight.com/whitespace has been de
-spammed (mostly by turning the blog feature off. We had a 2-month spam-blogging attack in Hebrew character set. I have no idea what about.

I have added multichannel chat (Rather IRC like - you can create your own channels).

1. Once you have an account, login and click the 'Chat' menu option, or browse to:

http://macrobius.weremight.com/whitespace/pg/chat

2. Type '/join sb' to join the Shoutbox, or /join whatever you want to create a channel.

Latest publically available content is here:

http://macrobius.weremight.com/whitespace/pg/groups/world/?filter=active

Much more is visible if you are logged in, or join one of the social groups. You may create your own groups.

I have disabled the 'blog' feature for now, since it was being badly spammed. I'm working on an upgrade to version 1.7.1 on my development box.

Suggested channels:

/join si - SI centric discussion

/join bb - Beer Barrel centric discussion

/join sb - general discussion (look for me here).

Feel free to make your own!

I was just playing around with this with Mac. It really is cool. A good place to go for a quick offline chat.

I joined temporarily as "sam" and just missed you by a few minutes.

I thought that might have been Sam Crow. See shoutbox.

If you type /help you will get this list of (IRC-like) features -- put a / in front to run the command given, and see any IRC ref (or Php Free Chat 3.0 ref) to get details:

This is good for trusted chat on a pre-arranged channel. Please note that /whois <username> does reveal IP address of the person you are talking to -- I will work to disable this feature (and logging) if possible, but IRC novices should be aware that it is implemented in this version. Talk to people you trust!

ADDED: Monster has confirmed you have to be an admin to see the IP address. So this should be pretty ok and not unlike a forum.

We have confirmed that /privmsg <username> type some text here
will drop you into a private convo with <username>.

Good job, Mac. It was fun kicking the tires. Others should give it a try.

Further testing does show it reveals your IP address to other conversants -- click on the name in the sidebar. I will attempt to disable this feature. For now, use it to set up convos with trusted buddies only -- use the PM system provided for all others!

UPDATE: further testing showed this was a by-product of granting /op privs to an authenticated user (Monster). Should be ok - we are continuing to test and I will probably disable the feature altogether.

One of the things that's cool about this is that you don't even need a weremight account to use it. Just enter the url and you'll be prompted to pick a nic.

Did you try it when you were logged out of weremight?

In any event, as an update, you may have been able to see IPs because I ran the /op command on your nick -- I'll disable that feature anyway, as we don't really need ops, and I'm not even sure how to un-/op you!

Yes. Confirmed: you don't need an account.

Thanks for your work on this.

And thanks for Monster's work on this board in general. Don't say that enough.
