This fellow seems to have divided loyalties

"They were outdone as Irish-American politicians, however, by my uncle, former Congressman Brian Donnelly. For my Uncle Brian, despite being a representative of the people of Boston neighbourhoods and cities and towns south of Boston, became Ireland’s man in the United States House of Representatives. In addition to pushing what became known as the Donnelly Visa through the Congress, Uncle Brian was the “go to guy” for Irish diplomats on Capitol Hill on everything that mattered to Ireland in the 1980s and early 1990s."

"I soon realised that law practice was not for me and began to investigate the possibility of making use of the Irish passport I’d held since childhood and living and working in Ireland for a time."

"It will also periodically examine the extraordinary, ever-evolving and, to me, sacred relationship between Ireland and the United States, the two countries I will always be proud to call home."

I'd be frankly amazed to find an Englishman who did the same for his homeland as this fellow's Uncle Brian.

You might read the Wiki on Congressman Peter King of New York.

Looking over this part is pretty amusing. The 'sacred relationship' amounts to the US getting tons of Irish immigrants, and it is telling just how distant Ireland and the US are even so. Ireland is not a member of NATO, has never been a noted supporter of US policy, and even issued a postage stamp celebrating the Saint Patrick's Battalion.

The sacred relationship would appear to be getting as much dosh and as many favours from the USA as possible

I looked into right of return to Germany years ago and of course I don't qualify.

What are the requirements?

Descendants of expellees like me qualify for right of return citizenship, but only if they're living in eastern European countries.
