The Sergeant - The Military in Your Neighborhood

Insanity here is defined as $542,000, a blast-resistant body, rotating roof hatch, ten gun ports, a battering ram, a video camera with night vision, and the capability to go 75mph.

Perhaps the most amazing thing is that the local media justified this massive monster because, a couple of weeks ago, there was a standoff in a community near mine wherein this thing was used to "knock down the front door." That's like justifying the use of an ax to cut sewing thread. Under the guise of Homeland Security, states and localities are provided the funds, so Michigan police are going crazy bulking up their police state.

In Metro Detroit, law enforcement agencies are excited at the prospect of using these 12-ton behemoths on wheels.

Warren's GPV Sergeant 4X4 used in the Capac shooting is the first of three Metro Detroit will receive through a $1.6 million grant from Homeland Security. The other two are expected to arrive at the Southfield Police Department and the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office in coming weeks.

The vehicles will be available to other agencies for police work or firefighting.

Law enforcement agencies said the Sergeants ensure public safety by allowing them to deploy their personnel safely.

One more thing worth noting.

It can be used in everything from hostage situations to delivery of warrants to fighting terrorism, officials said.

Delivering warrants?

On a similar note -- many years ago, a cop was a guy who strolled the neighborhood on his "beat," chatted up folks at the barber shop, and was thought of as a friend by many of the locals. Generally speaking, cops used to be guys who really did want to do some good for the community, and bring peace through a little neighborhood security. Good guys - for the most part - used to become cops. Confident, strong men used to become cops so they could hold a respected position in the community and provide leadership. Now, the bad, the bullies, the insecure, and the ugly become cops so that they can control, intimidate, militarize, and rule.

The militarization of law enforcement is something that has disturbed me for a long time, as has the potential for the actual military to be used in a widespread, repressive manner against US citizens. Bear with me while I share some thoughts.

If it ever gets to the point where individuals have no other option but to put these paramilitary thugs in line by force, the key will be to NOT wait for them to come for you. Once 100 pigs in heavy body armor have surrounded your house and are launching tear gas grenades through the windows, it's over. Even if you're well-prepared with a gas mask, powerful rifle, armor-piercing ammo, and body armor of your own, and even if you're not taken by surprise, there's no way out of such a situation except to surrender (not an option for me), commit suicide, or try to take one of the bullying faggots down with you.

To avoid this, the person who is forced to resist tyranny will have to take the fight to the enemy. That means using stealth -- at least if one is acting as a lone wolf or small group. The enemy is living right here among us, and he isn't going to be wearing his heavy body armor 100% of the time or living in an armored vehicle. He lives in a house just like ours, drives a car just like ours, goes out to pick up the morning paper just like we do, etc. Serious enemies of the Bill of Rights can thus be identified (perhaps by monitoring a PD), surveilled, stalked, and dealt with by people who are otherwise acting like good little obedient citizens. To the extent possible, it will be preferred to act like James Bond rather than Rambo.

If it's required to fight against thugs in body armor, the only answer for an individual (short of IEDs) will be to switch gears and play Carlos Hathcock. Although I like assault rifles and think everyone should have an AK, AR, or similar rapid-fire weapon, these should really be weapons of last resort against heavily-armored pigs. Distance, accuracy, and cover/concealment are your best friends when you're outnumbered. If you can take your time to set up that first head shot (or pelvis/leg shot) from 300+ yards away, armor isn't much of a concern. But you still want an accurate (i.e., ~1 MOA) weapon in a powerful caliber.

I'd say .308 Winchester is the bare minimum for power level against someone wearing the armor of the future. Any of the .300 magnum calibers (such as .300 Win Mag) or .338 Lapua Magnum would be even better. Even if the helmet of the future cannot be penetrated by one of these calibers, the impact should either cause enough blunt trauma to crush the skull, or it should snap the target's neck. The downrange energy of the bullet fired by these rounds is enormous.

Put yourself in the shoes of a jackbooted thug. You're terrorizing a neighborhood for a paycheck and a power trip. But what if someone could be watching you from any of the wooded areas or hills around you? What if a supersonic chunk of metal could be slamming into your head or groin from out of nowhere at any time? Would you want to keep that job?

This is why I'm just about certain that if we ever need to use the Second Amendment to free ourselves from tyranny, sniping (and stealthy assassinations in general) will play a central role.
