You won't find many people on SI that will beat the war drum for the United States. I hate to side with niggalo but he's right on this occasion. I'm not gonna read through 11 pages but what niggalo said on the first page is correct. I don't go actively defending modern America. I have defended some of its people and history over the years. There are some good things about America but there is hardly anything left to defend about America.

As B.F. Skinner said, a culture that ceases to believe in itself is doomed. I personally see enough value remaining in America to prefer it over mangy cavemen in Central Asia. Imo one has to be unusually alienated not to.
