Last time I tried to cook a catfish it tasted like mud. I was wondering if anyone else had a catfish that tasted like mud and if there was a way to make it not taste so bad. I heard there was a dark streak you're suppose to cut out of them, is that right?

To me catfish always tastes a little too fishy or muddy, I prefer almost any type of other fish. Yes you should always cut the "blood vein" out of any type of fish that always improves the taste. Marinade the fish in milk helps the muddy taste.

True, blue cat and channel cat taste better than flatheads and yellow cats, I think the water they are caught or raised in makes a difference too.

bullheads/cats have no scales. Neither do trout. I hate em both. The best fresh water fish is perch, crappie and small mouth bass imo.

Fresh trout is the best, blasphemy.

Trout most certainly do have scales. They're so small/soft, however, most people don't bother removing them to eat the fish.

Keep them alive in CLEAN water for a few days to wash the muddy flavor out....

While there is a dark streak that needs to be cut out of a lot of things, I'm a 1950s HoJo kinda guy, so I would just keep adding Tartar Sauce and lemon juice. . |
