Never judge Glenn Beck based on what other people write about him, they get the facts wrong every time. Watch/listen/read him for yourself and then decide if he's an imbecilic clown.

“You said I was a barbarian,” he said harshly, “and that is true, Crom be thanked. If you had had men of the outlands guarding you instead of soft-gutted civilized weaklings, you would not be the slave of a black pig this night. I am Conan, a Cimmerian, and I live by the sword’s edge. But I am not such a dog as to leave a white woman in the clutches of a black man; and though your kind call me a robber, I never forced a woman against her consent. Customs differ in various countries, but if a man is strong enough, he can enforce a few of his native customs anywhere. And no man ever called me a weakling!” “If you were old and ugly as the devil’s pet vulture, I’d take you away from Bajujh. simply because of the color of your hide.” “But you are young and beautiful, and I have looked at black sluts until I am sick at the guts. I’ll play this game your way, simply because some of your instincts correspond with some of mine. Get back to your hut. Bajujh’s too drunk to come to you tonight, and I’ll see that he’s occupied tomorrow. And tomorrow night it will be Conan’s bed you’ll warm, not Bajujh’s”

I am reading Allan Bloom's Closing of the American Mind. Yes, Bloom is Jewish, but his critiques of American society are very well-thought-out. He has a better handle on 'right-wing' thinking than most people who currently call themselves that (i.e. he actually understands the philosophical foundations of Western traditionalist thought rather than basing his worldview on an ill-conceived jumble of classical liberalism, faux-racialism of the GOP kind, human rights ideology, etc). Actually the Straussians in general seemed to have a pretty unbiased understanding of Western thought - given that many of them are Jewish this is noteworthy - and they are political realists for the most part; that is, not buying into the liberal or identity paradigms of political thought which they generally interpret as being cynical manipulations by those in power. I should also point out that the Straussians are often blamed for neoconservative thought, but are actually not very closely associated with that and many of them would have been dismissed as reactionary dinosaurs by the originators of the neocon movement, who actually have more in common with liberals and communists of various stripes.
Allan Bloom in particular singles out higher education as having failed modern students. He was well aware that it had been hijacked by ideologues who undermined the objective, free thinking foundations (*) of the old system in favor of a new authoritarian and groupthink-oriented model of indoctrination mill. Academia now functions as the intellectual stronghold of the cult of secular humanism and shows no sign of being open-minded or accepting of any beliefs which run counter to modern degeneracy. *It is of course open to debate whether the academic system actually lived up to these ideals in the old days; however, it is certain that the milieu which allowed for great discoveries and innovations at the apex of Western civilization is simply no longer there and Bloom endeavors to explain why. |

If a library doesn't choose to expend tax payer funding on a given book, that doesn't mean its "banned." It just means they don't wish to purchase it (just like most of the other books that have ever been written can probably not be found at your local library). You are free to purchase a copy of that lame tract of suburban housewife porn, and sit and read it in the public library to your heart's content.

He gives higher education way too much credit for focus. In the 60s, it was Marxism, in the 70s Maoism, in the 80s Bisexual Pacifism, in the 90s Communitarianism, and now the general social theory is that we can all get along as long as we're fucking each other. . |

I'm on the third book of the series A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin, A Storm of Swords. I'm enjoying this series, definitely.
